HOW IT WORKS

THE WEYLAND-YUTANI ATMOSPHERE PROCESSING PLANT IS A FULLY AUTONOMOUS PLANETARY-SCALE INDUSTRIAL FACILITY DESIGNED TO CONVERT A NON-BREATHABLE ATMOSPHERE INTO A STABLE, OXYGEN-NITROGEN MIX SUITABLE FOR HUMAN HABITATION.

EACH PROCESSING TOWER STANDS APPROXIMATELY 1,500 METERS TALL AND HOUSES A 1.0 TERAWATT FUSION REACTOR AS ITS PRIMARY POWER SOURCE. THE TOWER DRAWS THE NATIVE PLANETARY ATMOSPHERE THROUGH A SERIES OF EXTERNAL LOUVER ARRAYS POSITIONED AT MULTIPLE ELEVATIONS.

INTAKE GAS IS COMPRESSED VIA MULTI-STAGE TURBINE ASSEMBLIES AND ROUTED INTO THE CENTRAL PROCESSING CORE, WHERE MAGNETIC CONFINEMENT COILS HEAT THE COMPRESSED ATMOSPHERE TO APPROXIMATELY 5,000 KELVIN. AT THIS TEMPERATURE, MOLECULAR BONDS DISSOCIATE ENTIRELY, REDUCING THE ATMOSPHERE TO ITS CONSTITUENT ATOMIC COMPONENTS.

THE DISSOCIATED ATOMS ARE THEN CHANNELED THROUGH CATALYTIC REASSEMBLY CHAMBERS WHERE THEY RECOMBINE INTO A TARGET ATMOSPHERIC MIX: APPROXIMATELY 78% NITROGEN, 21% OXYGEN, AND 1% TRACE GASES. THE PROCESSED ATMOSPHERE IS VENTED THROUGH EXHAUST STACKS AT CONTROLLED RATES TO GRADUALLY REPLACE THE NATIVE ATMOSPHERE OVER THE CONVERSION CYCLE.
